Yes, there did seem to be a major lack of grief, given that whats-his-name had just lost his mother. The hypothetical sex of a hypothetical future child didn't seem to me to outweigh that fact enough to make them both quite so gleeful.
I suppose I'm just grouchy because I personally am not interested in family as a theme. I'm much more interested in power-dynamics (hence the interest in SGU and probably also in Thor) so I found myself generally not caring about any of the storylines. Also I felt suspicious that the narrow focus on family was because the programme was made for women - that maybe instead of stereotyping their characters they were stereotyping their audience in choosing what they thought would interest them.
