Whee! So I started editing 'Captain's Surrender' on Wednesday. A process in which I've discovered that I clearly have a problem with my commas, ellipses do not have spaces after them, the navy, the captain and the first lieutenant are not capitalized, although the Royal Navy and the Admiralty are, and that it is unfair to subject an editor to tall-ship jargon.
So far (and I'm half way through) I haven't had to make any changes in the story at all. I've had to re-phrase a few paragraphs, all for very good reasons, but not to have to make any essential changes. As a result I'm actually finding it quite fun, although staring at commas for any length of time is doing my eyes in.
