Holland, royalties, 90% Proof
Aug. 2nd, 2008 11:23 pmWell, I'm back from Holland :) It was a great holiday, though short and rather too hot. We went to Rotterdam, the Zuider Zee museum in Enkhuizen, the seaside at Scheveningen, and Delft, which were, in order, a horrible desert of concrete full of expensive shops, fascinating and beautiful, a horrible desert of concrete full of sand/expensive restaurants, and absolutely gorgeous. Delft was everything I'd hoped for - beautiful buildings, canals, leafy squares where you could sit outside and eat cheese-and-ginger pancakes while every half hour the carillon in the middle of the square would ring out a new tune. I wanted to buy some clogs for my 18th Century reenactment footwear, but I chickened out because it seemed too touristy.
Coming home I discovered I'd got my second quarter royalties on 'Captain's Surrender', and I'm overjoyed to see that they're somewhere between twice and three times more than the first quarter! I was afraid interest would have started to sag, 6 months down the line, but it looks as though it's actually been building momentum. I'm so relieved!
LOL! As for 90% Proof, I don't know if anyone's been following the saga of this one, but after being rejected by Dark Eden Press I re-wrote it and submitted it to Freya's Bower for their 'Inherently Sexual' anthology. This seemed to be going well for a while, and the story went through a tough editing process which taught me a lot.
Unfortunately, due to the editor being struck down with ill health, the anthology collapsed and the authors were offered a chance to take their stories back and submit them elsewhere. In one of those freaky coincidences, this was just at the time when ManLove Romance Press (MLR) were looking for submissions for *their* anthology 'Esprit de Corps' about gay love in the military. So I pulled 90% Proof from Freya's Bower, and submitted it to MLR, and I'm so happy to say that they've accepted it!
Woohoo! MLR are a real quality outfit, and I'm delighted and honoured to be working with them. Fingers crossed that the third time is the charm for this story and that I finally see it released fairly soon!
