Thank you so much to everyone who commented on my not-quite-writer's-block flaily post. I think I figured out that there's just a lot more pressure on this story than I've been used to in the past. For a start, it had a contract before I'd even written it! To follow, it's the first ghost story *and* the first mystery I've ever written. And to cap it all, it's destined to go in an anthology with stories by Josh Lanyon and Laura Baumbach. So I think I was a bit intimidated by the need to make it worthy of the publisher's trust and the company it's keeping.
Fortunately I read it back today and decided that maybe it wasn't so bad after all, and I added a thousand words which I liked. I've decided to abandon the quest to do it quickly, and just concentrate on doing it well. I immensely admire people who can write fast, but it seems I'm not one of them, and the sooner I accept it, the less panicky I'll get!
