False Colours help please!

False Colors

I've been asked to choose a little excerpt to go in the front of the book.  Something that people will see first, and possibly use to decide whether they're interested in buying it or not.  Out of four I've been offered, I can't make up my mind between two of them.  Any advice would be welcome.  Which do you prefer?
