alex_beecroft: A blue octopus in an armchair, reading a book (Wrong Question)
Since I started dealing with the outside world in the capacity of an author of GBLT fiction, I've started to notice an interesting phenomenon.  I'll get in contact with some blog/bookshop/other service provider and say 'I'm an author and I was wondering if you could do x for me.'  They will generally be positive and interested and say 'I'm sure I can, let's talk details.  What kind of fiction do you write?'  Then I'll say 'I write gay romance.  I look forward to doing business with you'.  And silence will ensue - they will never get back to me again.

I'm beginning to suspect that silence is the polite (or timid) person's way of acting on their prejudice.Read more... )

I seem to be having a day where I can't write. I think this is possibly because I've been trying to write this scene from the wrong POV character, and that hopefully everything will go easier when I trash the whole thing and start again from a different POV. (Tony is meeting Darren's appalling family. I thought this should be from Tony's POV, but now I reckon that (a) Tony is being a disgusting snob about the whole thing and I'm not sure if I can bear being him for much longer, and (b) it's Darren who's going to be more nervous and therefore more interesting in this situation.

Oh, Boys of Summer, are you ever going to be finished?!

But I'm very sleepy and I'm not sure if I can face doing that today. If I did, I think I would only write sleepy, not-joined-up prose. So instead I'll post these Clangers icons for [livejournal.com profile] erfan_starled (and anyone else who wants them.)
