alex_beecroft: A blue octopus in an armchair, reading a book (Sew nice)

I have definitively proved that there is a link between exercise and energy.  When I exercise on one day, the next day I am too tired to write.

Given that I would rather write than be fit/thin, this is making me want to give up exercise.  I hate being too tired to even think!

However, it did give me a chance to put the skirt on Rose's dress:

This is it worn over her school uniform, stays and a separate petticoat.  The skirt is very long, but then that's partly so it can go over pocket hoops (which we don't currently possess.)

This was only ever intended as a trial run with cheap material, so I'm not going to hem the cut edges on the bodice and do all that finishing stuff.  What I'm going to do now is to take the skirt off again and make the whole thing in a lovely fabric (as yet unbought) for which I can use this bodice as a lining.

Things I've learned when doing a mockup:

Do not decide you can't be bothered to transfer the marks from the pattern to the material!  If I had done this, I wouldn't have attached one side of the skirt further forward than the other.

When it says 'clip the curves' do not decide that you can't be bothered.  It makes the whole hemming round curves thing actually work.

Slightly lengthen the shoulder straps.

Don't sew the skirt on inside out!

But otherwise I'm really quite pleased with myself :)
