So, I noticed that nobody had posted on The Macaronis for a while, and thought that the blog post I was going to post today here would be probably much more useful to readers of that blog. (Because I’m sure all my friends are already perfectly aware of how to start a fire.)

But then I thought “but still, readers of my blog might be interested, if only for the laugh” so here’s the link

Nice post. I particularly like the bit about 'they might know what to do under ideal conditions, but not how to deal with a fire in the rough'.

My former neighbour heats his house with wood. He kept his woodpile unprotected in the garden. Some people grow to old age without learning basics...

Thank you! We keep all our fire starting stuff in the house, along with a bag of coal. Once the coal has caught you can put dampish wood on and it will still burn, so maybe he does that? It does seem a bit counterproductive otherwise :)
