Anthology Update
Dec. 2nd, 2008 11:04 amWhen I posted my 'anyone fancy doing an anthology' post, I never expected such a response! When we started we thought we would struggle to achieve 60,000 words worth of stories, but at the moment we have stories totaling 68,000 words on the short list, at least two others promised, and the deadline is still over two weeks away on the 18th of December.
This means a couple of things;
1. It means that we have had to raise the bar for acceptance to ridiculous heights. Instead of accepting stuff which is merely good enough for professional publishing, we have had to reject all but the blindingly excellent or the really unusual. Anyone whose story has been rejected should bear that in mind and not feel discouraged.
2. It also means that if you're still thinking of submitting a story, you will have the best chance of getting in if it's short. And because of our editing time constraints we are pretty much rejecting out of hand anything which needs much editing. If it has spelling mistakes, POV shifts, grammatical errors etc we will reject it rather than face the task of editing it up to standard. It may be an excellent story otherwise, but currently we're overwhelmed with excellent stories, so it's a no-brainer for us to pick the one that doesn't need lots of work over the one that does.
Also, this is eating my life! Hence the terse post :) Normal service will be resumed in January, I hope!
