alex_beecroft: A blue octopus in an armchair, reading a book (Nano - cult)

I got this idea from [livejournal.com profile] moondancerdrake - much more interesting than just a bit of blathering on and a wordcount.

Though, by now it's 'quote of yesterday' :)

“Most of my gentlemen would prefer to spend their time on other sports,” said Mrs Deane, and laughed aloud at the expression on his face.  Letting go of his arm, she tapped him sharply with her closed fan.  “Oh, Lieutenant, you think yourself so inscrutable!  But I assure you I have your measure.”

Mrs. Deane was a surprise to me, as she was meant to be a one paragraph experiment on John's part.  Instead she took over the story for three pages, shocked and amused him and extracted a promise that he would write to her.  Also she got to tell him all kinds of things through fan language as per this site   None of which he actually understood because he doesn't know there *is* a language of fans, let alone what it means.

So was that a threatening movement with a closed fan?

I love surprising characters. Thomas's Uncle was supposed to appear in a minor relatively obscure role, and now he's more prominent than I thought in arranging what happens in the story.

Yes, it's one of the brilliant things about NaNo - the fact that you aren't holding the reins so tightly, so stuff happens when you aren't expecting it :) It makes it more of an adventure :)

What name are you using over there? Can I friend you?

LOL! I had no idea I was going to be using it, but it worked its way in there despite me :)

Mrs Deane sounds intriguing and non-verbal languages of all kinds are fun. :) I wish I could NaNo as well this year, but I am drowning in work right now (which is also why I have not read your Hereward story yet, but I will get around to it eventually).

I was quite glad that Mrs.Deane turned up, as there aren't any major female characters in this book and I felt bad about that.

I'm glad to hear that you're busy with work, though! At least, I presume it's better than not having enough? And there's no rush to read anything. In fact it's not an obligation to look at it at all! Whenever you fancy it, if you do :)
